wildfocusimages  > Places > Namibia > Cape Cross Seal Colony
Cape Cross is the spot where the first European this far south on the coast of Africa, Diego Cao landed in 1485. Its a bleak rocky coast which leads to the desert inland.
It is also the home of up to 100 000 seals, numbers vary seasonally but the site is occupied all year round.
Lets get the smell question out of the way first. This area is home to a very large seal colony, therefore it a bit smelly. Get over it, its not that bad. Concentrate on the fantastic photographic opportunity and the smell will fade.
We are talking 1000's of seals on a atmospheric wind swept coastline. They are not afraid of humans and disregard the restraining wall totally.
