Dune 45 is a large popular sand dune in the Namib Naukluft park in Namibia.
Our journey began well before dawn as we made our way into the park. Dune 45 offers some spectacular views of the sunrise so there is quite a convoy. Pre dawn it is cold and the wind over the dune is icy. Fearing the sand blasting I only took our compact to the top. Having done it I say take the DSLR, just don't change lenses once up there. The changing colours are amazing and the patterns of the sand are worth the sensor clean. Make the effort and you will be rewarded.
